To find, examine and to learn about ourselves, really, as the greek philosopher Heraclitus had told, is the highest form of cognition and knowledge. That what I have experienced self-understanding and, I dare to say, realized the liberating catharsis - is painting.
In ancient Greek tragedy is considered a form of catharsis in which viewers of the tragedy should come out of the theater better than they were before the show which gives a direct link with the very painting or creating and experiencing art in general. Art is the source of truth that radiates beauty in its symbolism and ceremony. The artist is the messenger of transcendent - what is unknowable, that which is outside the limits of the natural world.
My frequent motifs are people without pronounced face, without pronounced physical signs of gender, religion or age of the character, which I think releases from misunderstanding the expressed message to the viewer. 'Anonymous characters', which also occur in the paintings of Greek-Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico, one of the artists who inspire me, create the impression of incompleteness. As the artist carefully summarized, for it is a poetic conception of art - "rigorous, cerebral, aesthetic and lyrical". Combining real and imaginary, he creates an another world, a metaphysical world hidden behind the scenes of everyday life. In addition, artists who inspire me in my artistic expression are Henri Matisse, Vincent van Gogh, Jackson Pollock and expressionism as art movement in general.
Vincent van Gogh, Dutch painter who had influenced the Fauves and also the forerunner of the entire European expressionism in his works especially expresses his inner state of mind and had reduced the subjective and the objective. He is also one of the first artists starting with deformation of natural samples which clearly expresses his cry in the world. Under the influence of Van Gogh and as the leader of the first modern movement of the 20th century, the founder of Fauvism Henri Matisse, in his creative work for the first time he used dissonant colors regardless of the natural color of the subjects which had resulted as an incredible aesthetic harmony. The color perspective, expressiveness and dynamism and sense of experimentation are qualities in which I found a part of myself. Also, in the beginning an exspressionist who later moved to abstract waters, Paul Jackson Pollock, in the last period of his creativity uses the so-called "Drip technique" where he drops the colors on the canvas with brushes. This is a technique that brings within itself a sense of playfulness that is also considered one of the characteristics of painting that I fulfill - an activity that is an end to itself, which outside itself has no other purpose.
Other interests that I possess are those toward literature, philosophy and photography. The interest in photography I had developed relatively early and this, of course, helped me as an another form of expression of feelings and transmitting messages to the world. Literature, Writing, and poetry are my second love and I believe that those have great importance in the history of art.
Literature, philosophy and art have the same purpose of constant striving to understand oneself and the world in which we live. As the German philosopher Arnold Gehlen once said: "The animal has the environment - the man has the culture.". Nowadays, polarity of techniques and art in the 21st century requires a change. Qualitative change is needed in society as a whole, moreover, it is urgent more than ever. Artists, therefore, as messengers of truth in today's world, show that man can not live without hope - the essential structure of the human being. The artist is not at peace with the world as it is, but always tends to a higher form. Humanity is a duty and, indeed, in the utopian content and faith in possibility of this world becoming more human is hidden that which is eternal and worth - and these are the artistic creations.
During finding and defining myself as an artist, I came across many ideas, thoughts and feelings that previously I was not aware of their existence. Whether it is a work of art, literature or philosophy I came across on my own thoughts and feelings, and I think this is also an another beauty of artistic expression. Croatian poet Tin Ujević, perfectly summed this up in his poem Fraternity of the faces in the universe:
"There are others than yourself
who unknown to you live your life
I live and die in all of them
I namelessly persevere in brothers"
Halil Džubran: "Master, if he is indeed wise does not offer you to come to the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your spirit ... For the vision of one man does not borrow its wings to another man."
Voltaire: "Burn your laws and create new", "How to take new?", "From the mind!"
